Peach Notes

Notes from a small orchard

Pruning logs, harvest diaries and the occasional failed jam experiment. Updated whenever the weather allows.

Late harvest and the wasp problem

The last of the late-season peaches came in this week. Roughly a third were lost to wasps, which is better than last year. Paper bags over the lower branches helped more than any trap did.

Summer pruning, round two

Thinned the water sprouts on the two older trees and opened up the centre of the young one. Light reaches the inner fruit now, and the canopy should dry faster after rain.

Fruit thinning, finally

Left one fruit every fifteen centimetres or so. It always feels wasteful, but the remaining peaches size up noticeably. Composted the thinnings.
